Licensing and Upgrade Options for the Makau Learning Library
The Makau Learning Library (MLL) currently comes in two configurations*, "The Works" and "The Productivity Suite". The Library is provided to you under the Makau Learning Library License.
The MLL license is based upon an annual subscription where you receive the initial courses under the Works or Productivity Suite configurations, and are entitled to use them for a period of 1 year along with being entitled to any upgrades or updates released by Makau during that first year. The first year's customer support for the MLL is also included in the subscription and license agreement.
After the first year a you are able to renew your subscription to the Makau Learning Library for a fee usually reduced from the original manufacturer's suggested retail price. The renewed subscription again entitles you to use the training courses for an additional year as well as receive upgrades and updates during that year. The subsequent year's customer support is also included in the subscription and license agreement.
Multiple year subscriptions can be purchased by you upon initial purchase or upon renewal of the subscription and may be subject to significant discounts when purchased with the original MLL.
Makau Learning Appliance
The Makau Learning Appliance (MLA) is also available in two configurations*, "The Works" and "The Productivity Suite". The MLA is the Makau Learning Library pre-loaded on a Network Attached Storage (NAS) appliance certified by and sold by Makau. The MLA is covered under the Makau Learning Library License. Hardware would be covered under any manufacturer's warrantee offered at the time of purchase of the Makau provided hardware.
The MLL can be pre-loaded on your hardware or our provided hardware on the Makau Learning Appliance (MLA). If you elect to have the library loaded on your equipment, the equipment must be sent to Makau for loading and configuration. You will still have to setup your server or device and configure it for your network use. Once the training is loaded you may elect to have a Makau representative come onsite to your location to help get it working in your system. If you elect to have Makau load the library on your equipment, you will have to provide hardware, a license for MySQL, as well as any configuration charges, shipping & handling and insurance charges to and from Makau and any onsite or technical assistance with your hardware.
Makau highly recommends purchasing the MLA. The NAS we use is quick and easy to install and has been tested with the Makau Learning Library. It is pretty much plug-n-play and takes about 15 minutes to attach and get working on your system. With the MLA you will not have to worry about network downtime because it plugs in as an attached device and is not part of the server or server operation and does not require taking down your networks or servers. The MLA saves you both time and money.
Upgrades and Updates in the First Year after Purchase:
UPGRADES: During that first year if new products are added to the two configurations by Makau, you will be able to receive those product "upgrades" free. For example, you are eligible for upgrade to your MLL if you purchased either the Works or the Productivity Suite and during the first year after purchase, Makau released a new product such as Microsoft Office 2003. If the new product is deemed appropriate for either or both MLL configurations by Makau, then you would be notified and then be able under license to download the new courses and licensed to use it for the remainder of that first year. For subsequent years, if your subscription is kept current you will be entitled to upgrades as described above during those subscription years.
UPDATES: The same holds true if a course were updated or upgraded by Makau during your first year of ownership. An example of this would be where you purchased the Works which includes certification courses. If those certification requirements were changed by the manufacturer and Makau revised or replaced the existing course to meet the new requirements then you again would be notified and be able to download the course materials. From time to time Makau may also update or upgrade the Learning Management System (LMS) which is provided with the Makau Learning Library and you would also be entitled to those upgrades and updates. For subsequent years, if your subscription is kept current you will be entitled to upgrades as described above during those subscription years.
